Mailing lists and newsgroups

• Since 1996, a usenet newsgroup specially devoted to software measurement exists: comp.software.measurement. Other newsgroups that often carry information and discussions on software measurement, quality and process improvement, though not exclusively, are comp.software-eng, comp.software.testing and comp.object. You may also want to consult the archives of frequently asked questions of those groups: comp.software-eng FAQ, comp.software.testing FAQ. See also the news archive offered by Google.
• The Worldwide Spin (WWSPIN) mailing list is concerned with software process assessment and improvement. To subscribe, send a message to listspice@spice.crim.ca with subscribe wwspin Firstname Lastname in the body.
• There is a Listserv mailing-list on Function Point Analysis, maintained by Denis St-Pierre. You can subscribe to this list by sending an e-mail with empty subject and a single line in the body stating SUB FUNCTION.POINT.LIST "Your name" to cim@crim.ca. Messages sent to the list are being kept in an archive since 1997.
• The Belgian Software Metrics Association (BeSMA) was founded in 1994. The objectives of BeSMA are to collect and exchange information on software metrics and to promote the use of software metrics in Belgium. Membership of BeSMA is open to everyone interested in software metrics. Most activities will be held in Dutch. BeSMA has a mailing list that you can join by sending a message to listmanager@ti.kviv.be with a line join softwaremetrics <e-mail address> in the body. List contact person is Jean Franck. The discussion of Capers Jones' book Estimating Software Costs is available in an archive.
• SEWorld is a pretty busy mailing list for announcements of software engineering conferences, workshops, special journal issues etc. Job opportunities are posted here, too. To subscribe to seworld send a message to majordomo@cs.colorado.edu with subscribe seworld <e-mail address> in the body. Messages sent to the list are kept in an archive.
• The SPICE users group SuGAR offers a mailing list. To subscribe, send a message to listspice@spice.crim.ca with a line stating subscribe sugar Firstname Lastname in the body.
